The Branding Breakdown

Home: Welcome

Project overview:

Throughout the semester I got the chance to create a self-directed project, where I not only get to develop myself further as a multimedia designer. But I also get experience working with a client thought the process.  For my self-directed project my chosen topic area was to brand and market my client who is a real estate agent.

Project Goals:

My overall goal for this project was to create a brand identity. When it comes to a Real Estate agent’s branding, I think it’s extremely important to not only create professional branding, but to market my client in a way that makes her trustworthy.

Technology Used:

Throughout this assignment I explored many different software. The key software I used for the project was:

  • Adobe Illustrator- Here I created the logo’s and edit my business card mock-up.

  •  Adobe Lightroom- I used Adobe Lightroom to edit the picture I took and fix the lighting.

  • Canva- I jumped in Canva to create the photoshoot moodboard, create the business card, Instagram posts, and used images from there.

  • Instagram Reels- In this software I edited the short video and added an audio.

  • Freepik.com- Here I created any mock-ups I wanted to do.

Creative Process:

Phase 1- Research, & Ideation

The first part of the creative process was to start my research. My job was to find other agents that were doing well in the field and see how they market themselves. From their social media pages, websites, to business cards etc. The reason why this was such an important part of my process was because I needed to get an idea of what makes them successful. Next, I spoke to my client to see what they are looking for, to get an idea of what they want for themselves. After that I moved on to ideation where I created different Moodboards, and colour schemes to show my client.

Phase 2 - Designing

After sketching out all the ideas I had, I moved into Adobe Illustrator to start bringing these ideas to life! In this phase my goal was to find the perfect colours, fonts, and design for my client.

Phase 3 – Research, Sketches, & Moodboard

In this phase I started to research different Real estate agent’s logos and business cards so I can get some inspiration. Once I had some ideas I went back t0 my client to ask if she wanted any specific thing for her logo, or business card. The only thing she asked was for it to say Pryce Wilson (PW) Real estate. Next thing I did was start the sketching process to get my ideas on paper.

In this phase I also had to research and create a moodboard for the photoshoot we were going to do. The reason why a moodboard is important is so on the day of the photoshoot you have an idea of the direction you want to go in. Another reason why it’s important is because if the model is uncomfortable, or doesn’t know what to do, we have something to fall back on.

Phase 4 – Final Execution

In this last and final phase, it was about putting everything together. First, I jumped back into Adobe Illustrator and created my logos that I sketched out in the previous stage. Once my client chose which one she liked, I moved onto creating a business card which I also created in Illustrator and on Canva. After creating those I started creating Mock-ups of the business card on freepik.com.

Once that was complete, we met up to take the photoshoot, and video shoot. Once completing that I moved into Adobe Lightroom to edit and correct the lighting. I also went on Adobe Premiere Pro and Instagram reels to edit the short reel we created.

Lastly, to finish everything off I started off the Instagram page and created a few posts and saved them in her drafts. As well as a list of hashtags to use to boost up her reach.

Reflection

The overall goal for my project was to create a business card, logo, Moodboard, photoshoot with short video, and create a final Instagram page. I was successful in creating everything I set out to create. I feel like I was able to accomplish everything by slowly working on parts of this assignment throughout the semester. I also feel like creating the project plan, with due dates for myself and using that to keep myself accountable helped me to stay on track.

What main difficulties I came across while working on this assignment was doing an assignment that I was also working on for a client. The reason why I say this was because anything I created; I couldn’t just submit when I felt it was done. I also had to make sure my client liked what I created throughout, and I had to make sure everything was geared toward her.

Something I learnt about my chosen topic area is that it can be very difficult to market a person instead of a product.

Lastly, something I learnt about myself while doing this project was I like to work with    deadlines. They help to keep me focused and motivated.
